Howdy everyone!
Hope you all are doing well. I am also doing well in this beautiful day. Few days back I just talked about the blue tang. But our today’s guest also belongs from the tang family!
Any guesses guys?
Well let’s not make you guys wait and let’s introduce you guys with our today’s guest The Yellow Tang!
I know this fish are so famous among the aquarium fish keepers. They hold a lot of attention and are the dream fish for a lot of you!
Why not?
They actually offer a lot of interesting factor that can attract your mind too!
Today I will talk about some really cool facts about Yellow tang which can I believe help you while deciding to keep them inside your own reef tank!
So let’s get started!
Yellow tang usually belongs from the surgeon family which is the yellowish form of blue tang. Doesn’t makes them completely similar to the blue tang!
Yellow Tangs are mostly found in Huawei and in some parts of Japan. Some are even found in Florida because of many fish keepers as they were released their in order to keep them avoided from extinction!
At a stage of time this fish were so much caught
in the wild that they were in a serious population crisis. But due to the Ban of catching Yellow tang in some region of Huawei, they are quite back from their extinction!
Yellow Tangs are perfectly recognizable because of their bright Yellow color. They are day dweller fish which means that they like to swim around day time. Mostly in the wild they are seen as the schooling fish which can refer to a situation where they swim the whole time with 10 to 15 other tangs.
But in the night time the stories are quite different. Well in the night time the Yellow Tang splits out of it’s group and hides inside corals in order to protect itself.
It is said that they change their color in that time into slightly darker coloration. Fascinating right!
Besides Yellow tang are fast swimmers who loves to swim up-to their food. So you will be requiring atleast a 100 gallon reef tank while keeping them inside your aquarium!
This yellow tang fish has a facial shape similar to horses with a stunning personality! It has some comb alike teeth from which it takes out the algae from the reefs.
They also eat out the growing corals which helps the ecosystem to maintain a balance in the reef world.
Yellow tangs usually eats the vertebrates that are found in the sea life as their basic food.
Okay one of the most common question I get about Yellow tang is that can one keep more than one Yellow tang in the aquarium?
Well if you listen to me there are conditions applicable here.
You can not just add a new Yellow tang inside your aquarium if there is already an existing Yellow tang inside your aquarium. This can cause fight.
If this is your situation, what you can do is to buy an small acclimation attached tank and keep the new fish in that for few days. This will give enough time to get them introduce with each other.
Or what you can do in the easiest way that you can add two fishes at the same time in the aquarium. I believe this will be the safest way!
Blue tangs usually lives up-to 30 years in the wild but in captivity their lifespan comes up-to 10 to 12 years which is an significant drop right?
I know but for a home aquarium, A fish living for around 10 to 12 years is not that bad and you can have them for a really long time when proper pristine water condition is maintained.
Usually this fish can grow up-to 8 inch’s and their right breeding age will start in between 4 to 7 years.
Usually the female tang lays up-to one million eggs per year as they can breed during the whole year and the most interesting fact here comes that,
Yellow tang breeds during the full moon! How cool is that! It’s like they wait for the romantic time to come! Really fascinating!
One quality they have similar to the Blue tang is that they have similar defense mechanism like the Blue tang.
They have spines over their body part where the tail joins with the body. They have it in the both sides which contains toxins that can eventually harm the predator fish trying to eat them!
Really cool fish right? My highly recommendation will be to keep one tang inside your tank as they will bright your day!
