Howdy everyone!
Hope you all are doing well in this beautiful day. Like every other day, I am back with another interesting topic. Basically this blog totally based over my personal experience.
It has been a few days that I am only writing blogs about Saltwater fish or marine fish right?
A lot of you guys will have asked me that why freshwater fish blogs are not coming?
Well here I am back with another freshwater topic freshly baked for you guys only!
There are so many freshwater options when it comes to aquarium. And it is always said to start with freshwater options as a beginner. I have also started the journey of this hobby 10 years back with freshwater fish!
There are some beginner freshwater fish as it is said. Mainly the beginner fish are considered fishes that requires less maintenance!
Well our today’s guest is among those fish and let me introduce you guys with our today’s guest the
Tiger Barb!
The tag tiger influences people to think that some big predator fish or some dangerous fish which is difficult to keep. Well they are angry fish I might say but they are really small fish in terms of their size!
Okay let us start from the beginning!
Tigerbarb are freshwater small aquarium fish which can grow up-to an inch in size. Small fish right?
Usually every other person will straightly say that go for this fish, they are good for beginners!
But wait a minute, I believe they are not quite good as the beginner fish. Well of-course they are small in size and costs less but what I will say that they are not properly compatible while considering them as your beginner fish!
Well you might ask me now why is that? Why you are not suggesting me to get them as my beginner fish?
Well my experience says
tigerbarb are schooling fish which means that the love roaming around with their gang. Mostly four or less. They swim around with their gang and mostly attack other fishes.
That’s right even though they are really small fish in size but they will attack on other fishes fins , tails and sometimes over their body. I have my personal experience in this segment!
I had a goldfish tank and by not knowing that this small predators can harm other fishes, I bought four of them as they were cheap and small fishes. I didn’t even thought this fish could harm other fishes. It is a story back from may be around 7 to 8 years back.
After few time passed, I saw that this fish were chasing my two regular goldfish. They were biting in their long tails. As a result I immediately removed them from my goldfish tank and back then as I had only one tank, I had to give them away to my another friend.
Okay this has been my experience with them. Now let us come down to our main points!
Tigerbarb are freshwater small fish which can
grow up-to 2 to 3 inch’s when proper conditions are provided. This fish can live up-to 5 to 7 years! And they will always want a group to stay on. Without their group , they will be stressed out for sure. In general you can call them a bunch of 10 year old’s hanging around with each other!
And you know another interesting fact about them?
Tigerbarb are a kind of fish who doesn’t like hiding themselves. Like when keeping other fishes you have to think about adding hiding space inside you aquarium. But for them you don’t need to think about this! Usually the male fish get’s all the color and the female get’s bit less color.
Cool fish right?
Okay this tiger barb has black strikes over it’s body which has a force over them having tiger tag over their name! This Small fishes has kind-off yellowish tone to their body with orange in their mouth and tails. This small fishes will always swim here and there. Realy active fish to have.
So if you can get a bigger tank such as 50 gallon will do more than good. Or 30 gallons will be perfect to be exact for around 8 to 10 Tigerbarb! You can add them on planted tank. They even loves to stay inside planted tanks but make sure not to add a lot of plants in the aquarium.
Plant your plants at one side of your tank so that this fish can swim around easily. You can add some big rocks inside your aquarium also.
The water flow should be really slow as it is necessary to make your tank being like a natural habitat. The more you can create natural environment , the healthy your fishes will be. Also they are small fishes so water won’t be affected by ammonia that easily.
As their tank mates you can add other Barb kinds or small fishes that swims fast and has small tails otherwise this small tigers will bite your fish!
