Howdy!
Hope you are doing well. Today I am back with another topic which is Crayfish!
Most of the people knows crayfish as Freshwater lobster but let in general they are not! They are Crayfish only. The main difference explains us that Lobster lives under saltwater and crayfish lives under freshwater!
Now it seems easy to differentiate right?
Among crayfish, the whole blue colored one is considered the most rarer one as it is said that Crayfish in whole blue color can be seen 1 out of more than 10,000! Can you imagine the number! Huge right!
Red ones are vibrate red in color. Also there are white ones who will be totally white.
Water requirements for crayfish is quite unique! Crayfish loves to live under sallow water or dirty water. For this requirement , I used to put some Nutwood leafs. As they are quite big in size, I believe two or three leaf would be enough! I used to put them bellow big rocks!
Cray fish are really aggressive towards each other. That’s the reason why when keeping them, you need to make sure they had proper hiding space! As crayfish changes their shell in need of growing. And when they change their shells, their soft body is revealed which is vulnerable! In that time they need proper hiding space in order to save themselves and their lifecycle!
Crayfish grows really fast. The more they will grow the more they will be aggressive! They have claws like crabs which grows even bigger. It helps them to hunt their prays!
The male female identification of crayfish is important incase you have an intention to grow the population. Usually the male crayfish had extra legs which can be found near the tail , bellow there body.
When I got bought crayfish, they were smaller in size. I bought the blue and Red ones. I bought them in small size because of my budget and keeping in mind of observing their growth! In smaller size the color of them doesn’t looks that pretty, but when the grow their color gets more solid and with their big claws, they look really bold and colorful!
Their diet includes Lettuce leaves, sometimes algae. Grows up to 4 to 6 inch’s(10-15Cm)
My recommendation will be to provide proper Hiding space, keep the water sallow, Have a big aquarium to get the best outcome with your Crayfish.
