Blue tang-Poisonous fish you didn’t knew about!

Howdy Everyone!

Hope you all are doing well in this beautiful day! I am also doing well like every other day. I was out of my home to visit the ocean for 5 days. I am back and I am straight back into my work! It’s like I love informing you guys and staying connected with you!

We are a family and it’s good to have you guys by my side!

So let’s introduce you guys with our todays guest!

The blue tang or mostly known as Dory fish by the movie finding Nemo!

Have you guys seen

that movie? If not, It’s a high recommendation to watch that movie!

Okay people know blue tang as dory fish more then they know it by it’s actual name!

So let’s not waste any bit of time and straight dive into the topic! I know a lot of you have asked me to tell about blue tang and what do I think about them. I can not just say anything about this fish right? So I had to do some research before saying about this fish.

Here I am with having plenty of experience about your dory fish!

Blue tang comes from the surgeon family where

there are 74 more species available of this species! They are mainly found in indo-pacific regions and some which are found in other regions are different kinds. There are powder blue tang which has a black mask attached to them. But our today’s talk will be only about Blue tangs.

Blue tangs are saltwater fish which have really deep blue body with a black art alike design over their body with bright yellow tail. Usually this specific color oriented fish is seen as Dory fish. Their bright color makes them popular towards aquarium owners and the movie effect is also their! Usually this fish were mostly caught from the wild at the beginning but from near about 2016, they are breed in aquariums where they can breed during the whole year. But still they are caught from the wilds to get better bright color. Which lead them to a population crisis but recently they are announced as staying at less risk!

Blue tang usually loves to

live near where sunlight reaches , near corals and caves in between corals. They can change their color. Sometimes bright or sometimes fade. Their color will fade at most when they are stressed out. This day living fish mostly eats algae from the ocean and also from the corals. They will also eat planktons from the water and loves to live near where the waters flow is high. So that planktons can get into their mouth easily. Besides they are friends with corals as they help to keep the growth of the corals at a best position!

This algae eating fishes have an unique defense technique which most of you don’t know!

Even I didn’t know this also. But when I researched about them, I got to find out their fascinating behavior of poison. They have a spine alike sting near where their tails join with their body! This sting is smaller in size and the coloration is yellow! This can cause a huge amount of pain to other small fishes when stung and to humans they can cause irritation.

I believe this unique defense mechanism will make them more attracted to people. At least I was attracted to this fish after knowing this factor.

SO I wasted no time and straight went to one of my friends house to find more about them. He had a pair of this fish.

Here comes the answer for the mostly commonly asked question about this fish if they are community fish or not,

Can I keep them one per tank?

Well what my research says that you can keep up-to twelve fishes together as they are schooling fish but my recommendation will be to keep a pair in a tank. The powder blue tang can be aggressive but only towards other tangs or surgeons.

Keeping them in pairs will be the best option for me! Usually the male fish gets larger then female. And in total this fish can grow up-to a foot under proper situation. They can live upto 30 years in the wild but in captivity this can reduce up-to a huge bit.

The male and female has an external breeding process which refers to a situation where their sperm and eggs are only released in the water and the eggs have a drop of oil which helps them to float! This frys usually takes around 10 days to get their heartbeat.

Do you know another interesting factor about this extremely famous fish?

They can play dead.

Which mean when they are scared , they can just lay around in the surface and not move for a bit which makes them dead towards their predators. But it’s not the only situation where they does this. When in time of sleeping , they can do this too!

Interesting behavior to witness right?

At the end I will say they are a really good option to keep. And obviously if you are one of Dory’s fan, then you must have atleast a pair of them inside your aquarium!
