Nemo’s best advisor- Moorish Idol

Howdy everyone!

Hope you all are doing tremendous in this beautiful day!

To make your day a bit more special, today I am back with another really cool fascinating topic which is about the Nemo’s friend!

Have you all watched the movie finding Nemo?

Well if not it’s highly recommend from myself to watch that movie! So much fun in there!

Okay we are going a bit faster then expected! Let me first introduce to you guys with our today’s chief guest named

The Moorish Idol!

Interesting fact about this fish is they have a really unique name right? It’s like some special tool or what!

But this is the fishes name and we can’t change that!

Okay the Moorish Idol fish specifically comes out from the tropical region of the Indo-pacific ocean. It’s the last living kind of this species!

Which makes them even more of a center of attraction!

Moorish idol fish is a saltwater fish which

lives in the sallow water and are mostly famous to the people, specifically special to the fish-keepers because of it’s appearance on the Finding Nemo movie!

Moorish idol fish a unique shape of their body quite similar to an freshwater angelfish but not exactly same as them. They have a really long fin which quite often confuses the predator. Interesting right?

They usually move around with their swimming fins to here and there and you will mostly see this fish in the coral region. They love swimming around by the coral region and one of the most iconic fact which can easily draw attention to anyone’s eye which is that this fish is a schooling fish. You will always see them swimming around in a pack of four or more. Mostly they are seen in big groups swimming around the corals.

This Moorish idol fish has a unique coloration

over their body. Usually they have two colors in their body. They black and the yellow. As a human being I always have seen that black with yellow color combination is one of the most perfect combination ever. Like myself this fish attracts the thousands of you guys attention! How cool is that?

As this Moorish Idol fish is the last of it’s living kind, it is quite a normal assumption that this fish has a unique adaptation capability.

Well this marine fish can swim really fast and it’s body structure is made out of a shape from which it can easily fit it’s body in small caves or in between corals which helps them to catch their prey when the situation get’s trickier! To keep their body fit and healthy they will always need to swim and that is the reason why they will be requiring a large tank to keep in. In total this fish is a highly difficult fish to keep as they always need to swim here and their which will eventually cost the owner to buy a really big space!

Also they will be requiring a really high flow

of water circulation inside their aquarium to stay alive. So you must use a really good filter that filter outs water at a great pace and maintains a good water flow!

The Moorish idol fish is considered one of the most difficult fish to keep in aquarium life!

You might ask how is that? It’s a regular saltwater fish right?

Well my friend , it is not that easy how it seems! A Moorish idol fish mostly feeds on coral sponge diet which is eventually hard to replicate in the captivity. Most of the people fails to feed them properly which eventually comes down to a harder step for a fish keeper.

Have you read about my Blue tang or Yellow tang blog? Incase you haven’t, the tangs have spines located in the area where the body and the tail joins. It is mainly for it’s defense mechanism.

The Moorish Idol fish has spines too in it’s body. But the differences is that it has spine over it’s head. A cute add on is that it has an orange spot over it’s mouth which I found is really cute!

Usually the adult’s can grow up-to seven inch’s on average. Which is a good size for keeping inside your aquarium. Usually this fish are day dwellers which means they are mostly active in the day-time. On the nighttime they usually lives in the bottom area. The males are usually really aggressive to protect their mates during the breeding season!

This Moorish Idol fish usually releases sperm and eggs in the water and the eggs get fertilized in the water. This is quite similar with other marine fish.

Usually a really difficult fish to keep in captivity to recommendation will be to have at-least a two to three years of experience in keeping saltwater fish tank to keep this majestic fish inside your aquarium!
