Tank Cycling- An important step

Howdy folks!

Hope you are doing well. Like every other day, I am back with another new topic.

Our today’s topic is a really important topic which is also a mandatory step for keeping fish inside your aquarium!

Today I will talk about the tank cycling process.

If you go through internet and all, you will find a lot of ways of cycling a tank. But a lot of them will be difficult to process and complete! Usually there are ways where you can use your fishes to cycle your tank or you can also do it without fishes.

In my category, I am someone who is

fond of mixed method. In a more simple way, I use some combined methods which is I believe very beneficial. My method is really simple. I just talk out one sponge from my another fish tank which has been running for a really long time. I just grab that sponge, filled with fish waste and put it on my freshly made new aquarium. Okay wait wait I believe I am going a little bit faster!

Let me explain from the beginning!

So tank cycling usually means in a simple word that making your new tank perfect for your fish by adding beneficial bacteria. We all know that fish produces wastes which contains ammonia which is really toxic!

Not good for your fish at all. Nature has a really beautiful way of consuming those wastes. But our aquarium don’t have that option right? For this situation , we have to cycle our tank. For cycling our tank we can use live plants which can consume our fishes waste.

What I do is I take a sponge out of my another tank, as previously said, put it on my new tank, Put some live plants inside my tank which will enhance the speed of cycling and lastly what I do is put 2 or maximum 3 fishes in that brand new tank!

Now a lot of you might say that what have you done! Why on earth you have put fishes in your brand new tank!

Well let me explain. In day one, I put maximum 2 to 3 small fishes. Mostly I have put 2 fishes. If you have a really bigger tank you can put 3 or 4 fishes in the tank.

I give them really small quantity of food.

By small I will say really small. Usually a fish needs almost two to three hours to process it’s food. Like from swallowing it to turning it into waste. You can add one flack per fish in your brand new aquarium 2 to maximum 3 times a day. Not more than that. Even if your fishes are really hungry. You should not give more food than it.

It might sound little bit harsh but at the end of the day, it will be the best for your fish as it will help you to maintain the environment of your fishtank.

So by adding food your fishes will produce waste, which will be consumed by your plants. And the another tanks filters sponge will also help to increase the quantity of the beneficial bacteria. It usually takes a day or two. But my recommendation will be to keep the tank like this for atleast 5 days.

During this time it will be properly cycled. After those days you can add 2 or three more fishes. This is how I cycle my freshwater brand new fish tank.

But what if you don’t have another tank from where you can take the wasteful sponge?

Well you might then need to buy a beneficial bacteria creating product I that case.

And if you ask how can I cycle my tank without any fish?

Well this one is a tricky process and I have personally not dealt with this way. But I can tell you how to do so! You need to start the filtration system of your tank, then add some fishfood to your tank which create beneficial bacteria hopefully. Keep it for 7 days and hopefully your tank will be cycled!

Now let’s talk about the importance of your tanks cycling!

Well I believe cycling your tank is really important

as it creates the natural environment for your fishes so that they don’t get stressed out.  When I was at your position, like the beginner , I had made the same mistake by not cycling my tank and adding fish right into it. My fishes got stressed out in that way.

Sometimes they do not eat. You should always know that not eating is a sign of sick fish.

When your fishes will be stressed out, they will not roam around, sometimes their color fades.

So cycling your tank is really important and you all should do it when it comes to building new tanks!

Okay I believe this information will be really helpful for you for starting your new tank!

Wishing you a good luck and stay safe while keeping your loving pets safe! See you tomorrow!
