Howdy!
Hope you are doing well in this beautiful day! Like every other day I am back with an interesting topic today! You all might of heard about axolotl’s? A cute amphibians! I believe you have heard about it!
Our today’s talk is about axolotl.
Interested?
Okay let’s get started with our today’s journey.
Axolotls are really cute amphibians
who are native to Mexico and are found in lake Xochimilco. Sometimes in other canals or waterways of Mexico! It is a really clear fact that amphibians that are only found in one country of the universe makes them already a famous species.
Also they are extremely rare species with extremely rare qualities
which contains an interesting fact which describes their regenerating abilities which refers to a position where they can regenerate their lost limbs!
They can regenerate some parts of their brains also along with their spine!
It is because when Axolotl are small, they use to fight a lot! They fight with each other, sometimes eats of one another’s legs, tails. So they have adapted themselves to a position where they can regenerate their body parts!
In a proper adult stage,
Axolotl’s have lungs but in primary stage they have gills. The adult body shape stands for a shape where they have tail like a baby Frog and body like a proper salamander. When you will look at them you will found out that they are always smiling at us!
Cute right?
Axolotls can turn themselves into regular salamander.
It is a rare case but I have seen one in USA. In the adult stage you won’t see them fighting that much rather they get more and more shy. Loves to hide themselves.
An adult Axolotl doesn’t makes that much movement. It is also a sign of identifying healthy Axolotl! An adult healthy axolotl doesn’t moves that much and stays in one place maximum of time.
So no need to get afraid if you see your axolotl not moving much.
An Axolotl can have various of colors and every color is beautiful.
Usually the black ones are found in lake Xochimilco.
They have so many color varieties and among them the most famous one stands for
Leucism Axolotl
Albino Axolotl
Leucistic Axolotl
Melanoid Axolotl
Copper Axolotl
Mostly the leucistic Axolotl’s are seen mostly in the aquarium world! They are cute pinkish color alike with super cute gills coming out of both side of their head.
Axolotl
male and female identification is quite impossible until the grow to their adult stage!
Usually the adult axolotl male has a bump alike extra meaty portion under their tails
where females have a really small bump alike meaty portion. As par my knowledge this is the way to find out their gender till now.
For an axolotl
which is adult on size I will suggest you to go with a 50 gallon tank if possible. The more the space the more the possibility of water to keep suitable!
Keeping an Axolotl can be a really hard job to do. I mean they are extremely sensitive amphibians and
most important factor while keeping an axolotl will be maintaining the water temperature and the water!
Water temperature for an Axolotl will be 14 to 20 degree Celsius (57F to 68F) which is a really tough thing to maintain. Either you have to buy an Aquarium chiller or you have to keep your rooms AC always. Tough job to do right?
Another factor is water changes in every two to three days are mandatory in terms of Axolotl!
If you wanna arrange a filtration system for your Axolotl tank,
you must have to get a filter that flows water really slowly! Heavy water flow will be harmful for your extremely rare Axolotl!
Try to maintain as low flow as possible for your axolotl tank!
Axolotls
are carnivorous which means they will like meaty things as their meals. Usually they love to eat earth worms or live fish.
Do you know that an baby axolotl only eats a live food? They can eat blood worms. brine shrimps can be a good food for them.
There aquarium substrate
must be picked really wisely! Axolotl’s have a really sensitive body structure! You should not add any type of substrate or rocks in Axolotl tank which are sharp!
It can be harmful for your tank. Also by keeping your tank setup simple it be easy to clean and maintain as Axolotl tank requires a regular maintenance!
Also add a lot of hiding space for your Axolotl as they love to hide!
Axolotl don’t require any lighting system so it is your choice if you want to add lights in your aquarium setup!
For Food habit, for an Adult axolotl you can give them food twice or maximum three times a week. I believe it will be enough for them!
Axolotl poops a large proportion which is quickly needed to be removed as if it stays for a longer time in your aquarium,
it can harm your axolotl by ammonia getting mixed with the clean water. You don’t want your axolotl to get harmed right?
For breeding Axolotl
they will breed for once in a year. Mostly it tends to be near may or june but they can breed in any month in the year when optimal water condition is available!
An adult female Axolotl can lay up to 100 to 300 eggs
which takes usually three weeks to hatch. Female axolotl usually lay’s eggs which are attached to rocks or live plants. Small baby axolotl will eat brine shrimps. Usually while breeding in aquarium, after the eggs are laid, the male and female is needed to be separated.
You can also keep the babies separate with a really slow water flow and make sure the water temperate is accurate and water is properly clean.
So I believe these are the useful information you will be needing before going for an Axolotl tank. Always keep in mind as they are extremely rare species to keep, maintaining them will be a little bit hard. But if you can, they will be your best of best collection in aquarium world!
